Time to feed the Chickens!

Chickens are pretty resourceful. I've never quite figured out what they eat in all that scratching and pecking at the dirt, but they never seem to tire of trying.

Chickens actually need rocks in their diet. Rocks sit in their gizzard where they grind up what the chicken eats. If chickens don't have access to dirt where they may find tiny rocks, you should buy grit for them to access. My bag of ground-up oyster shells lasted a long time because my chickens are outside most of the summer and I only supply them with grit when they are in the winter chicken coop. One group of chickens I had seemed unphased by the snow but this last group doesn't seem to like the snow. They stay pretty much inside the coop during winter.
